On The Horizen – Hearthstone Meta Report August 14

Introduction | Hearthstone Meta Report August 14

Welcome to On the Horizen, your one-stop-shop for everything to know about the current standard meta provided by members of the HypeHorizen team themselves! Every Friday you can expect a detailed report on the meta as a whole and some tips for how to maneuver through it. This will also be a hot spot for other articles written by team members. PLEASE NOTE: All information is based on personal experience and personal statistics gathered through many hours of high-level gameplay.

Meta Overview | Hearthstone Meta Report August 14

The meta since the release of Scholomance Academy has been refreshing to say the least. Every deck is beatable, and every class has at least one viable archetype.

There are many decks that are incredibly fun to play, and others that feel like they play themselves. I have noticed that most games feel either incredibly fun or completely horrible due to high rolls and one-sided matchups. A lot of cards are “too good” and may need to be tuned down; but for the most part, this meta feels fresh and exciting thus far.

Best Decks | Hearthstone Meta Report August 14

The “best” decks are changing every single day. Pure libram paladin and Survival of the Fittest druid were dominating for the first few days of release. However, highlander priest came alive more recently, proving that it can counter and destroy almost any deck in its path.

There is still a lot of testing to be done, and there are likely still some hidden gems still to be discovered. Here is my list of the best decks, based on performance in the top ranks and overall matchups.

Tier 1 Hearthstone Decks

  1. Survival Druid

  2. Highlander Priest

  3. Pure Paladin

Tier 2 Hearthstone Decks

  1. Highlander Mage

  2. Zoo Warlock

  3. Enrage Warrior

  4. Thief Rogue

  5. Cyclone Mage

  6. Aggro Demon Hunter

  6. Galakrond Priest

  2. Totem Shaman

  3. Gibberling Druid

Closing Thoughts

This is one of the best metagames we have seen in a while, essentially having a viable deck for every type of player. Yes, there are a few cards that are probably too good, but some of the fun in card games is figuring out how to maneuver through the tough matchups and giving yourself the best chance to win, so I don’t feel any balance changes are necessary quite yet.

As previously stated, there are still many things to be discovered and likely even some balance changes to come, so hang in there if you are struggling. I genuinely believe that you can be successful with a deck (from any tier) mentioned above. Good luck out there and I will see you on ladder!
