On The Horizen – Hearthstone Meta Report August 28

Welcome to On the Horizen, your one-stop-shop for everything to know about the current standard meta provided by members of the Hype Horizen team themselves! Every Friday you can expect a detailed report on the meta as a whole and some tips for how to maneuver through it. This will also be a hot spot for other articles written by team members. PLEASE NOTE: All information is based on personal experience + personal statistics gathered through many hours of high-level gameplay.

Meta Overview | Hearthstone Meta Report August 28

The Scholomance Academy meta has continued to evolve since its release in early August. Between deck lists being refined, new lists being built, and the nerfs to Kael’thas & Mindrender Illucia, the meta has gotten a bit of a shakeup within the last week.

The current meta has seen some of the previous best decks (Survival Druid and Highlander Priest) fall in the rankings due to a combination of their bad matchups seeing more play and nerfs to high-impact cards.

Despite falling slightly in the rankings, Priest still has several high-tier decks. Rogue has seen a variety of archetypes rise in prominence, while Malygos Druid has proven to be the strongest Druid deck. Soul Demon Hunter and Face Hunter have emerged as frontrunners for best decks within their classes.
Cyclone Mage, Pure Paladin, Zoo Warlock, and Bomb Warrior continue to perform well within their respective classes, while Shaman struggles to find its place in the meta.

Best Decks | Hearthstone Meta Report August 28

In such a diverse meta, there is yet to be a clear divide between the “best” decks and the rest. The meta is still evolving and will likely continue to do so in the coming weeks.

Rogue, Priest, and Druid all have at least one deck that one could argue is the best in the game. Time will tell if one of those decks cements its spot at the top of tier 1. For now, here is my ranking.

Closing Thoughts | Hearthstone Meta Report August 28

The Scholomance Academy meta is quickly shaping up to be one of the most diverse metagames we have had in recent memory. While some classes are naturally stronger than others, it seems that all 10 have one or multiple decks that are viable for climbing.
I have had a great time exploring all the new decks that have come with the expansion, and I am looking forward to the hidden gems that will likely be discovered in the coming months. I hope all of you are enjoying Scholomance, and I look forward to playing you on ladder.
